Quick answer: This essay argues that Trump’s Venezuela escalation functions as a loyalty test—especially for the military—and warns that leaders who normalize force abroad often escalate repression at home before critical elections.
Why Trump Can’t Risk 2026
Trump can’t allow Democrats to take power in the 2026 election. It’s already looking like a losing proposition, and the more he violates his promises to MAGA to stay out of international “regime change,” the more he bleeds votes from his own base.
As it stands right now, Republican’s couldn’t win an election if they held it in their own living room. In 2021, Trump practically had to be dragged out of the White House even though he had no friends left in the capital, and his approval ratings were in better shape than they are now.
That’s why the question isn’t whether he’ll escalate. The question is: when does he decide intimidation isn’t enough?
Right now, he has what amounts to his own private enforcement paramilitary: ICE—a force that will do whatever he asks, including arresting politicians on “trumped-up” charges.
That’s not some new trick, it’s a classic authoritarian move; the same tactic Hitler used (with his “Brown Shirts” paramilitary forces) to consolidate control of government after he barely won the German election: criminalize opposition, weaponize law enforcement, and call it “order.”
Venezuela as a Loyalty Test
And I don’t think Venezuela is “foreign policy.” I think it’s a domestic power rehearsal.
I believe he’s using the attacks on Venezuela—including the illegal murder of Venezuelan citizens during the boat attacks—as a litmus test to see how far the military will back him.
Then came the kidnapping of the president of Venezuela and his wife. If he can do that without meaningful resistance from the institutions that are supposed to restrain a president, he’s going to read it as permission.
And once a leader believes the military will do whatever he wants, the next step is obvious: he starts using that power at home.
The Domestic “Enforcement” Problem
If Trump can’t retain control through intimidation and false charges against politicians, he won’t hesitate to use military force against American citizens. Remember: this is the same asshole who already tried a coup once, with a rabble of inbred morons on January 6. Now those same morons are working for ICE—and they’ve got badges to prove it.
If you think this sociopathic, megalomaniacal narcissist is going to let go of power now that he has an absolutely loyal Cabinet of Curiosities, Republican control of Congress, and a power-hungry Supreme Court of Cowards, you are smoking your own dope. He is not leaving!!!
And he will do whatever he has to do, cross whatever line he must, to make certain he stays in power.
Dictators don’t act like they’re leaving
A dictator who’s leaving doesn’t knock down the East Wing of the White House to build himself a ballroom. A dictator who’s leaving doesn’t remodel the entire building with gold leaf. A dictator who’s leaving doesn’t put his name on every building he sees. A dictator who’s leaving doesn’t rename the Defense Department the Department of War.
The Real Purge won’t be some vague “crackdown” people can debate on cable news while they sip lattes and pretend the system will save them. It’ll be the moment he starts treating political disagreement as treason—and turns the machinery of the state into a kill switch for democracy.
The Point of No Return – The Real Purge
When Trump:
- orders the arrest of any politician who votes against him and has them executed for treason;
- cancels all future elections because “the public can’t be trusted”; and,
- sends shock troops into a state Capitol and has the governor dragged out of the building and shot on the front steps as an “insurrectionist”
it will be too late to say, “I didn’t think he’d go that far!”
FAQ
Is this predicting violence?
No. It’s a warning about patterns in how authoritarians consolidate power—especially around elections and accountability.
Why mention Venezuela?
Because the argument is that using force abroad as a political tool, without consequences, can normalize the idea that force is “available” for domestic politics too.
What’s the point of publishing this now?
Because people always say “I didn’t think he’d go that far” after the line is already crossed.
